Although we have many out-of-town guests attending, securing a traditional "block of rooms" has proven to be a bit more challenging than we expected. Some hotels no longer offer this option (or at least don't provide discounted rates). Our suggestion is to choose from the many hotels within a 1 to 1.5-mile radius of the Shedd. If you're local and would prefer not to make the late-night drive home, you can book a hotel with parking, drop off your things, get ready, and then uber or drive over to the Shedd, where we will have free valet parking available for you! Pick a hotel that fits your budget and what works best for you. There's no right or wrong choice. Well, actually, staying at the Congress during the wedding weekend WOULD be the wrong choice (feel free to Google that one)! If you need any help or additional information about hotels, don't hesitate to reach out to either Jake or Bryan! We haven't tried this ourselves to verify, but you might be able to find discounted rates through the Suenos Music festival that is taking place over the weekend. See details at: https://crewfare.com/events/Suenos-Festival/
Please do your best to arrive around 6:45 pm. Guests will gather in the Atrium before being escorted to the Lakefront Terrace for the ceremony, which will begin promptly at 7:00 pm. As there is only one door to the Terrace, please note that if you arrive late, there is a chance you may not be seated for the ceremony.
We are suggesting Cocktail Attire. Please dress as fancy as you’d like, but keep in mind that our wedding festivities will take place both indoors and outdoors, with a decent amount of moving from place to place, and you will be free to explore the Aquarium's exhibits. The most important thing to us is that everyone is comfortable, enjoying the experience, and ready to dance!
While it would mean the world to us if you brought a gift, the truth is, we don’t really need anything! We’ve been together for 16 years and are pretty well set—no coffee machines, microwaves, or air fryers for us! We’ll have a card box next to the guest book, so feel free to leave a card (if you’d like). If you'd prefer, you can visit the registry page on this site to see where you can contribute. Your presence (not your presents) is what matters most to us!
The average temperature for Chicago in late May is a very comfortable high of 74 degrees and a low of 54 degrees. But, since this is Chicago, be prepared for anything – it could be a perfect spring day, or you might find yourself dodging snowflakes, a surprise hailstorm, or even scorching hot temperatures. You just never know!
For those driving, we have arranged for valet service. Please proceed to the main entrance of the Aquarium, where you can leave your vehicle and join us. Kindly inform us when you RSVP if you will require a parking space. We would also be grateful if you could consider tipping the valets for their assistance.
Chicago, like any big city, can seem intimidating at first, but it’s definitely not "scary" when you approach it with an open mind and common sense. The city has a lot to offer, from incredible museums to beautiful parks and vibrant neighborhoods. As with any large city, there are areas that may be less safe, but popular tourist spots and downtown areas are generally safe, especially during the day. Just like anywhere, it’s always good to stay aware of your surroundings, stick to well-lit areas at night, and use reliable transportation options. Once you get to know the city, you’ll find that it’s filled with friendly people and plenty to enjoy!
