We're getting married!

Jake Hanson

and

Allyshia Kriticos

March 29, 2025

How we met

We both first met at a train station out of all places. Jake was the talk of the South and a known "trouble maker", funnily enough, the first few times we met Allyshia didn't even bother to say hello (rude, we know) . As time went on it went from 'Hi, I'm Jake" to "Hey, do you want to get pizza?" We started off as friends which quickly grew into a highschool romance, inseparable from the start really. We would hang out with friends at every opportunity and finally Jake mustered up the courage to ask Allyshia to go on our first date for pizza on the Esplanade. It's crazy to think about all the years in between that. Learning to drive together, to moving in at 18 & 17, to buying a puppy together to now finally getting married. This is one of our many chapters and we are so excited to finally say I do.

The Engagement

Our engagement was special, before our holiday Jake bought the ring and had it delivered to Callum's house to not raise suspicion! The ring travelled from Adelaide to England, through Belgium, Netherlands and Germany nestled safely in the bum bag that never left Jake's hips. The original location of choice was Positano in Italy. On the day we arrived in Switzerland, we were going up Mount Stanserhorn and the scenery was beautiful even from the bottom so Jake did as Jake does and made a split second decision to propose at the top of the mountain. He organised with a friend to get a video and found the perfect spot, down a short track to a lookout with a view that didn't look real. Of course, with a split decision, things are not always going to go to plan (mainly because there wasn't really any plan.) The first thing to go wrong was that we got split up from the friends Jake had organised to take pictures, we only had limited time so every minute counted. Once we reached the top Allyshia started to freak out and felt extremely unwell due to the fear of heights which Jake had forgotten to consider. We walked around trying to calm Allyshia down and wait for our friends to arrive. In the mean time, Jake found his picture-perfect photo spot, of course, somewhere Allyshia needed some convincing to trail down. Our friends arrived and we tracked down to the look out spot. In front of us there were 3 women looking out where Jake wanted to take the photo, for about 5 minutes of Allyshia saying "its fine lets just get a photo here" Jake refused. So Allyshia had to go up to the people (who did not speak English) and kindly gestured if we could please take a picture here. The 3 women reluctantly moved out of the way. Jake kept his composure, said a few nice things and got down on one knee in front of the most picturesque locations and asked the most important question of the trip. "Will you marry me?". And, so that's the story of why we're having a wedding!
