This hike takes you to the very top of Mount Crested Butte Peak which has the best 360 views and view of town! A "must-do" as a first time visitor. Also a great trail to go Mountain biking from the base area. LAKES: PADDLEBOARD / HIKES / DRIVES Irwin Lake: Rent a paddle-board from the SUP shop on Elk Avenue and drive up to Irwin lake to paddle, swim, and hike around. Easy Emerald Lake: Drive straight to the lake and park. Beautiful bright emerald colored lake with public canoe and hiking nearby. Make sure you have a car with 4-wheel drive. Approx 30 min Easy Long Lake Park at the parking lot, grab your cooler and hike up! Fun for hanging out in the sun and taking a dip. Swim across and go on the rope swing. These trails are close to town, relatively easy, and offer mountain views as they follow the Slate River through the valley. A popular choice for mountain bikers as well as hikers, Lower Loop connects with a few other trails, providing alternate routes such as the Woods Walk and the Budd Trail along the way. There are also a few benches on the trail inviting you to sit, relax, and enjoy the scenery. Reminder there are NO E-BIKES ALLOWED on the trail. From the town of Crested Butte, drive west on Elk Avenue and turn right on First Street. Make a left at the end of First Street onto Butte Ave. This turns into a dirt road and Peanut Lake Road. Park at the clearly designated area on the right side of the road ahead. There is also a restricted parking lot another 1.2 miles up the road with wheelchair access.
The Rec Path connects the town of Crested Butte to Mt. Crested Butte in a little over 4 miles. The path gets steep at the base of Mt. Crested Butte, leading to more challenging walking and biking. Ride it up to get to the base area of the mountain or into town to head to the main shops on Elk Ave.
