The year was 2006. David had a mohawk and bright orange kool-aid shoes. Jaimee had bright orange hair and a quiet disposition. The excited eleven-year-olds began their middle school journey at Greece Odyssey Academy in Rochester. Although David and Jaimee met in sixth grade, they did not become close friends until they were both cast in the school musical (Footloose) in 8th grade. The spring of that year, Jaimee and David both attended the 8th grade formal. Jaimee VIVIDLY remembers David asking her to dance, and that was the very first "slow dance" the bride and groom ever shared together. Unfortunately, David has absolutely no memory of this special moment (insert eye roll). In 11th grade, David had plans to ask Jaimee to Prom. He later found out she couldn't attend due to her dance recital, so he never got the chance to ask. Jaimee didn't learn about his secret plan until later that summer, and was shocked, excited, and disappointed she never got that prom-posal. By senior year, Jaimee finally got David to come over and watch Mean Girls. David enjoyed the company but, sadly, was not impressed by Jaimee's favorite movie. By now Jaimee considered David her best-guy-friend and they frequently texted and hung out during musical rehearsals. That summer, Jaimee and David were texting daily, hanging out at graduation parties, and enjoying their time together before college started. David was staying local at Nazareth College, while Jaimee was leaving for SUNY Fredonia, 2 hours away. Both were excited for the new experiences and memories they were going to make, however, they couldn't ignore the connection that had grown between them. David and Jaimee spent 4 years as college undergrads, but only lasted the first 21 days as single individuals. On September 16th, 2013, they finally became "official" when David asked Jaimee to be his girlfriend via video chat, lol.
Almost 5 years later, David proposed to Jaimee at the Park Avenue Festival in Downtown Rochester on August 5th, 2018. He coordinated with the festival ahead of time to find a caricature artist that would help him propose. David dragged Jaimee to the festival on a 90 degree day, where they approached the artist he had been in contact with. At the end of their session, the artist turned around her work to reveal a drawing of David down on one knee, asking Jaimee to marry him. By the time they are married, the bride and groom will have known each other for 15 years, and more than half of that time will have been spent "together." They currently reside in Rochester, NY with their handsome cats Neville and Seamus, and their loving puppy Maggie. After a 3 year engagement and 2 failed attempts at a wedding, David and Jaimee are looking forward to finally saying "I do" and moving on with the rest of their lives :)
