Travel Note

General TravelGeneral Travel

FLIGHTS: We recommend not taking a late night flight into MSY so as to not delay your travel plans. Example: If you have a layover in Houston at 9 p.m., you may get stuck there overnight (this is sadly common). DRIVING: If you plan on driving, we recommend you factor in 2 to 3 extra hours for traffic and stops, just in case. Also, don’t forget time zone changes. HOTELS: We recommend staying in the local area of Metairie, if possible. The hotels in New Orleans may be more fun but they are expensive. You will also have a commute to Metairie. Nothing is that far in New Orleans, but the weather and rush hour can make travel take much longer than planned. It may be best to use resources like Booking.com or any point system you may already have. Alternatively, family members may want to rent an AirBnB. TRANSPORTATION: You may want to check the benefits package of any credit cards you may have because they often have stellar deals on rental cars. If you rent a car from the airport, it’s a little tricky finding the return garage, but we can help you. Other options are the typical rideshare services: Lyft and Uber. These apps act up in the French Quarter especially. You may also get dropped and re-assigned to a driver even in Metairie, so we recommend scheduling rides in advance when you can.
