Update 7/30: Due to the developing situation with COVID in our area, we are following the most recent recommendations and asking that all guests at the indoor ceremony wear masks. We still ask that guests at the ceremony over 12 be vaccinated, or join us online only.

Question

I've never been to a Quaker wedding. What will it be like? What do I need to know?

Answer

You don't need to know anything! Matt (pastor at Camas) will guide you through the ceremony. It differs from an average American wedding in that it is more simple (not shorter though!) and leaves out many of the standard rituals like having an officiant and a processional. The couple marry each other without clergy or someone else performing that ritual. There will be a part of it that is totally silent where anyone is invited to speak as led. There will be another part where the marriage is "recorded" and everyone present who witnesses, (not just clergy) are invited to sign the certificate. If you want to know more, here is an article that explains: https://www.theknot.com/content/quaker-wedding-ceremony-rituals Or, if you are more of a video person, here is a video about what to expect: https://youtu.be/18YfqzHGTp4

Question

How far is the drive from Camas to Olympia?

Answer

About two hours. If you need a ride or want to rideshare, please contact Kendra Purcell at kendrampurcell@gmail.com

Question

What will the reception be like?

Answer

It will be outdoors at Jade's mom's U-Pick blueberry farm in Olympia. The berries are ripe and you are welcome to pick and eat some while you are at the reception. Kids are very welcome. Please everyone be aware of farm hazards (animals, equipment, etc.) and keep an eye on kids. We will have a Brazilian band for a portion, and a potluck playlist the rest of the time. Please recommend a song to add! Noodle bowl buffet potluck-if you want to get in on this please contact Kendra Purcell at Camas Friends Church at kendrampurcell@gmail.com We will provide blueberry mojitos, non-alcoholic drinks, champagne and gluten-free cake.

Question

I can't come to the ceremony. Can I still come to the reception?

Answer

Yes! Please come for whatever portion you are able.

Question

How can I help with the wedding?

Answer

Please sign up for a potluck item for our noodle bowl buffet, and recommend a song for our potluck playlist.

Question

What is the potluck playlist?

Answer

A playlist made by this community of friends. Please send us your favorite love song, dance party song, or a song from a chapter of life with Jade or Tom so we can play it at the reception.

Question

I want to donate to the honeymoon/service trip fund on the registry but I would rather not pay the transaction fee. Can I just give cash/check?

Answer

Absolutely! We have much of what we need for our home, so we've focused our registry largely on assisting with the current medical/economic crisis in Cuba. We really appreciate donations in any form. Donating online has a fee, but allows people to donate who want to pay with a credit card. We also accept checks and cash!
