The universe aligned one Veterans Day weekend while Ben was home on leave in 2014. Our first date, Ben took Jade to Jo Sho (a BYOB sushi place) in Somerset. Jade remembers pulling up to see Ben outside his tiny white pickup truck with white sunglasses on, his silver chain, and holding a bottle of wine in a brown paper bag. Ben remembers Jade pulling up in her Honda Civic, looking as beautiful as ever. One memorable experience from that first date, Ben telling Jade ALL about his parents cat Sonny because he knew Jade was obsessed with cats. Ben returned back to North Carolina and they continued to talk and get to know each other over facetime and phone calls. Ben finally flew back home for the holidays and planned a trip for Jade to Atlantic City where they took a cooking class (this is when I learned Ben could cook!), had dinner, and that is when we decided to be together 'officially' over pomegranate martinis. Cheers to us! Time passed, our laughs grew louder, and love grew stronger through miles apart. Through countless trips back and forth for our first year dating, Jade and Ben committed to seeing each other every month to see if it would work. After a few years of long distance and one deployment for Ben, they decided to move together to Colorado Springs where Ben was newly being stationed. We spent 3 glorious years in Colorado Springs, sprinkled with Ben's 2nd deployment, all the brunches, drinking all the Brass beer, and learning more about each other. One beautiful spring day, Ben took Jade to the highest mountain, got down on one knee, and proposed on Pikes Peak: America's Mountain. We celebrated in Breckenridge, CO. After getting our venue and initially planning from Colorado, COVID hit and we postponed for the safety of our loved ones. Although it's been a long road, we are so happy we can finally share our day! We currently are stationed right outside of Miami, Florida and enjoying sunshine, wedding planning, and our cat, Louie.
