What's in the Area?

Midcoast Maine is full of beauty and character! We are so excited to share with you places that are such an integral part of Gwen's family and history and that have become some of Jacqui's favorite spots. If you are making a week long trip out of your visit or just need a spot or two to grab some food, we have recommendations for you!
Town of Waldoboro

Town of Waldoboro

Waldoboro, ME 04572

While there is not too much happening in the town of Waldoboro in terms of stores, there is plenty of history! This is where the venue is located, and a lot of the families who made up town around the time that the Farnsworth house was built, still own their same businesses today! Below are some Waldoboro businesses to pay a visit to.

Moody's Diner

Moody's Diner

1885 Atlantic Highway, Waldoboro, ME 04572

A classic diner that is about as Maine as you can get! It is off Route 1 in Waldoboro and the perfect place to stop for breakfast!

Odd Alewives Farm Brewery

Odd Alewives Farm Brewery

99 Old Route One, Waldoboro, ME 04572

A wonderful brewery close to the venue that has great food as well!

Village of Round Pond

Village of Round Pond

Bristol, ME

Round Pond Village has some of the best lobster and the sweetest general store! Visit the Granite Hall store and get some lobster at the Round Pond Lobster Co. (owned by the father of Gwen's cousin). Gwen's mom spent childhood summers here playing with all her cousins! Just across the bay from the venue, it is about 25 minutes from Waldoboro.

Town of Camden

Town of Camden

Camden, ME

Camden is a quaint and quite popular town about 35 minutes north of the venue and 20 minutes from the Hampton Inn Rockland. There are plenty of restaurants and stores for exploring and the harbor has several options for boat excursions.

Town of Damariscotta

Town of Damariscotta

Damariscotta, ME

A town about 30 minutes south of Waldoboro with great stores and our favorite bookstore! Check out Fernald's Country Store, Sherman's Bookshop, and Reny's stores for some good discount shopping fun!

Town of Rockland

Town of Rockland

Rockland, ME

With downtown just 2 miles away from the Hampton Inn and Suites, Rockland has quite the selection of coffee, breakfast places, and galleries. The Farnsworth Museum is right on the main street, which was founded by an ancestor of the original Farnsworth family that built the house at the venue! Take a ferry to the islands of North Havel or Vinalhaven via the Rockland Ferry or walk down the jetty!

Monhegan Island

Monhegan Island

Monhegan, ME 04852

12 miles off the coast, the island of Monhegan has some of the most breathtaking views and houses! Take a day trip to walk around and visit the Monhegan Brewery. Take the ferry from the little town of Port Clyde, about 30 minutes from Rockland and 40 minutes from Waldoboro.

Pemaquid Point Lighthouse

Pemaquid Point Lighthouse

3115 Bristol Road, Bristol, ME 04554

Visit Pemaquid Point if you want to experience a Maine Lighthouse! Perfect to see while you explore the Damariscotta/Round Pond Area. About 1 hour from Rockland and 35 minutes from Waldoboro.

McLoons Lobster Shack

McLoons Lobster Shack

315 Island Road, South Thomaston, ME 04858

McLoons is the home of Jacqui's all time favorite lobster roll (but shhh we're trying to gatekeep). Besides lobster, they also offer an array of other seafood favorites and an ice cream booth if you're in need of a sweet treat! McLoons is about 40 minutes from Waldoboro and 20 minutes from the Hampton Inn.
