Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Jacquelyn Riccio and Dane Curry
There are ENDLESS things to do in Humboldt! We plan to do a couple of big group events before and after the wedding. Below are some highly recommended activities and places to see in the area. A couple of notes on Humboldt to prepare you all... 1. People here are on "Humboldt" time-- there's a slower pace of life, and always room for small town chit-chat. Don't be surprised if your coffee takes more than a couple minutes, or if the grocery store cashier tells you their life story, or if people wave you on at stop signs after you've already told them to go. That's all normal in Ye Old Humboldt. 2. Most activities are not open at night, with the exception of a few. Businesses typically close early, so people can go home and enjoy the rest of their day. More small town stuff. So, if you need to shop, go earlier in the day. 3. The weather is ALWAYS changing in Humboldt, especially on the coast. Bring layers or pack a change of clothes, even if you think it will be sunny and warm.

Another state park with big trees... and lots of Roosevelt Elk up close and personal!

A unique Humboldt experience-- an assortment of ciders paired with Humboldt pies.

Trinity River

Bask in the sun and beautiful turquoise water in the Trinity River, about 45 minutes inland. (Note: we will be planning a family and friends rafting trip for sometime after the wedding).

Logger Bar

510 Railroad Avenue, Blue Lake, CA 95525

An absolute MUST visit-- this is the oldest bar west of the Mississippi River.

Arcata Community Forest

Arcata, CA 95521

A stroll through the Arcata Community Forest will make you feel like you're in the movie Avatar with HomeTree.

College Cove Beach

An amazing, protected cove in Trinidad, CA. On the Elkhead trail, you have the opportunity to see migrating gray whales, stellar sea lions, and harbor seals.

Visit an old Yurok Village, hike out to Wedding Rock, and have the furthest view of the coastline in the County.

Scenic Drive in Trinidad (Luffenholz, Baker, Houda Point, and Camel Rock Beaches)

Scenic Drive, Trinidad, CA

This road follows the coast, and takes you to multiple scenic vistas and secret beaches. Start in downtown Trinidad or take the Westhaven (726A Westhaven off 101 North). There are many places to get out and take panoramic pictures, or you can walk down to the beaches. Most of the beaches have steep access stairs, so wear appropriate shoes and take your time.

Mad River Brewing Co

195 Taylor Way, Blue Lake, CA 95525

Great little brewery with excellent BBQ, outdoor and covered patio seating, and often times live music. You can also pick up a 6-pack here, and head down to the sandy beach under the bridge spanning the Mad River, just north of the brewery on Hatchery Rd.

Renata's Crêperie

1030 G Street, Arcata, CA 95521

Fabulous creperie and fun atmosphere-- great spot for breakfast or brunch!

Finnish Country Sauna & Tubs (Cafe Mokka)

495 J Street, Arcata, CA 95521

Experience real wood hotutbs and saunas inspired by Finnish designs. This is a local's spot, where everyone goes to unwind, relax, and detox. You can book a half-hour or an hour. I'd recommend an hour for a tub or a half-hour for the sauna.

For all the days along the way
