We were both engineering students at San Jose State University. Ariet was a 3rd year and Jacquelin was a first year student. Within the engineering department there was this program called the MESA Engineering program. It was meant to academically & professionally prepare engineering students. Ariet was assigned as Jacquelin's peer mentor for her freshman year. We met for a few meetings and Ariet had already liked Jacquelin. But it wasn't until an engineering conference in Oakland in October where we were able to get to know each other.

We were on vacation in Japan and Ariet made a reservation at Nobu in Tokyo. During the whole dinner Ariet was extremely nervous and barely talking. I went to the bathroom and when I came back to sit down he stood up got down on his knee next to me and said many romantic things and proposed. After we continued our dinner and I was happy that it wasn't a huge scene in the restaurant. However, after our meal, the waiters brought out a large dessert platter with candles. All the chefs and waiters in the restaurant came out and started clapping. I don't like to be the center of attention so I got nervous but it actually turned out to be a great experience.
