Cinque Terre, Italian for "Five Lands," is a string of five picturesque villages nestled on the rugged Italian Riviera. The best way to travel between the villages is by local train, which runs frequently and takes just a few minutes to reach the next stop.

Flight

Arriving by Plane

We recommend flying into Milan and taking a train from to Monterosso al Mare. From Milan's Malpensa Airport (MXP), you can take the Malpensa Express train to Milan Central and catch a train to Monterosso from there. The train from Milan to Monterosso is about three hours and you can book tickets online or at the train station. Train

Train to Monterosso

Regardless of where you are coming from, the train is the best way to get to Monterosso as Cinque Terre is not very car friendly, and those arriving by car will likely have to park outside the city and walk or take a shuttle in. You can book your train to Cinque Terre via Trenitalia: https://www.trenitalia.com/ Once in Cinque Terre, you can travel between the villages via the Cinque Terre Express trains which are running frequently and stop in Levanto, Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore and La Spezia. If you plan to explore the different villages, you may want to consider purchasing a Cinque Terre Card which provides unlimited train rides for the day(s) the card is valid for. Otherwise, you can buy individual tickets as needed from the train station. Hotel

Accommodations

Cinque Terre is a National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site, and as such does not have a lot of large hotels. Instead, you can find accommodations in the colorful Ligurian style houses built into the cliffs. You can find bookings online via a lot of the usually suspects: Booking.com: http://tinyurl.com/yckxt243 Airbnb: http://tinyurl.com/4t2urcs7 Vrbo: http://tinyurl.com/3x85a69b For the night of the wedding, you may want to stay in Monterosso so you can enjoy all of the festivities without worrying about catching the last train. However, for the other nights, feel free to hop around and explore the other villages (it's truly only a couple of minutes via train between them).
