We both attended Bucknell University, but we were only on campus at the same time for one semester. Kelsey studied abroad for a year in Denmark & Australia and Jake studied abroad in Tours, France the next semester. Kelsey was working at the study abroad office and was asked to interview Jake on his time in France. Our interview in 7th Street Cafe was our first time meeting and our lives have been entwined since!
We got familiar with long distance, lots of FaceTime and watching Survivor over Skype. We were lucky to visit each other frequently, with our stretches in between averaging 30.6 days (yes, Kelsey has a spreadsheet calculating this). Some of our favorite memories have been hiking in Garibaldi, BC, attending Bridge Day in Fayetteville, WV, Jake's surprise birthday in Maui, and driving across country from Seattle to Huntington.
Working from home during COVID had a silver lining for us - we were able to spend months together working remotely and welcome home the pup that we had always talked about. During the summer of 2020, we returned to the North Cascades National Park, where we had gone camping together during Jake's first trip out west. We drove to Lake Diablo through the rain in the morning, and as we sat together on the overlook, the clouds parted and Jake got down on one knee.
We love West Virginia and are looking to make somewhere in the state our landing pad. Catch us visiting every single town in the state (Jake has a list) with Sequoia in tow, building furniture from scratch, and maybe opening up our own cidery in a few years.
