Matron of Honor
As Monica's big sister, I've had the privilege of being her personal life coach, fashion consultant, and unofficial crisis manager—whether she asked for it or not. From stealing her clothes, to giving unsolicited advice, I've always been by her side. Now, as a mom to my two-year-old son, I love seeing the bond between him and his fun-loving auntie Monica. But nothing makes me prouder than seeing her become the incredible woman she is today. I’m beyond excited to watch her marry Jacob and start this beautiful new chapter.

Best Man
Jacob and Marine first met during their 1L year of law school, amidst the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. They quickly became friends, bonding over their shared love for exploring Miami and discovering the best happy hours in town. Both later secured clerkships at Horr, Skipp & Perez, P.A., where they began a competition over who could bill the most hours—Marine, of course, won, though Jacob might disagree. Throughout law school, Jacob, Marine, Jay, and Erwin regularly gathered for game nights and adventures around Miami. After graduation, their paths diverged: Jacob stayed on at Horr, Skipp & Perez, P.A., becoming a successful associate, while Marine joined the United States Navy JAG Corps and is now stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. Despite the thousands of miles between them and the 13-hour time difference, Jacob and Marine have remained close friends, often catching up over a glass of whiskey.
Groomsman
Jay and Jacob met after being randomly assigned to Section B2 in law school, forced to take every single 1L course together, and they have been close friends since that fateful pairing by UM’s mysterious algorithm. Wikipedia races in Gudridge’s Con Law course, being the greatest witness for Lit Skills, accidentally missing out on meeting Tom Cruise because of Jay, and always having two contessas on the table, the core memories and memes are being carried for a lifetime and continue to be made. After graduating from UM law, Jay and Jacob suffered through BAR prep and having to go to Tampa, and survived long enough to be sworn in as attorneys together. Despite being on opposite sides of the courtroom, they continue to strengthen their friendship through their love of complaining about their respective opposing counsels, going to happy hours, and playing video games. Jay is also known as being “your friend Steve” for Jacob and Monica, routinely joining their adventures around Miami and being the (un)official photographer. Jay didn’t learn his lesson and is currently still in school attending NYU Law School for his LLM in Taxation while also practicing as a plaintiff’s medical malpractice attorney.

Erwin and Jacob’s journey at Miami Law School began in 2021. Though they shared several classes, they didn’t become friends until one day, after their afternoon legal writing class, they bumped into each other on the way home and struck up a nerdy conversation with Marine about their favorite shows and movies. Little did they know, that chance encounter, along with the addition of Jay, would mark the beginning of a close-knit group—one that would offer both fun and unwavering support through the highs and lows of law school. Their friendship continued to stay strong after graduation, with regular meet-ups filled with fun, great food, drinks, and friendship. Today, Erwin is working as a teacher while preparing to take the New York Bar exam.

Jacob and Brett officially met in their freshman year at Mizzou in freshman biology class. Little did these two know the journey that they would be on the next four years, and throughout life. It took awhile for us to get close, and through some vigorous nights of prepping for exams, beach volleyball games, nights on the town, and hiking through local trails in Columbia (shout-out to mud mountain) these guys became best friends. Towards the beginning of their senior year, both Jacob and Brett were trying to plan for the rest of their lives. Was advanced education worth it? Was medical school on the table? Law school? Was it time to get into the work force? The two found their own paths, and while they might be going in different directions they have many inter-lapping sections. Jacob moved to Miami and pursued law school where he is excelling in his career. For a while, Brett hung around Columbia, but inspired by Jacob’s bravery to move to a new place and make a new life, he did the same. Brett moved to Seattle in 2021 and does research in pediatric cell therapy. The two regularly stay in touch through travel and phone calls, trying as hard as they can to keeps their paths as close as possible even though they’re physically thousands of miles apart.

Jacob and Garic first met in their sophomore year at Mizzou in the lobby of Dogwood Floor 3. Garic, along with Brett Frazier and Hugh Key, was part of a group of guys playing a “rowdy” game of Uno. The three of them came up with the idea to play Uno in the lobby as a way to attract the attention of passing students, hoping some would stop and join in so they could meet new people. Little did they know, this plan would not only be the catalyst for meeting Jacob and starting a lifelong friendship, but also the place where Jacob and Monica would first meet. Throughout their time at Mizzou, Jacob and Garic made countless memories that solidified the foundation of their friendship. From grabbing lunch at the Mizzou food hall Sabai and taking it back to Dogwood to watch daytime television in the lobby during breaks between classes, to singing along to “Country Roads” at Piano (a local Columbia bar), and Jacob busting out his dance moves on Roxy’s dance floor. Jacob left Missouri for law school at Miami, while Garic returned to Kansas City to start his job as an engineer. Despite the thousands of miles between them, they stayed connected through video games, where they would catch up with each other.
