Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Cocktail attire or dressy casual. ***Please, no perfumes, colognes, or heavily scented products besides deodorant.*** -Try to avoid: polo shirts, casual khaki pants (like cargo pants), crop tops, mini skirts, shorts, jeans, tee shirts, flip flops, stilettos, ballgowns, tuxedos, wedding gowns, pajamas, swimsuits, birthday suits, etc. -Vibes: Florals and sparkles are encouraged! If you want some extra inspiration, our colors are pink and green and our decor will have an enchanted forest theme. Wearing a dress with some white or pastel colors is totally fine. Please just avoid wearing a literal wedding gown and veil. -Modesty: Please just wear things that are comfortable for you. We don't want you to have to worry about adjusting your outfit all day.

Question

How is this an accessible and sensory-friendly wedding?

Answer

*Noise: Disposable ear plugs provided. DJ will keep our music to a lower volume. *Lighting: Lots of natural lighting and minimal fluorescent lighting. Feel free to wear sunglasses if needed. *Scent: Guests are asked to avoid wearing heavily scented products. Few, if any, real flowers used for decor. *Food: Clearly labeled with common allergens listed. Everything is vegetarian or pescetarian. Served buffet style and as passed hors d'ouevres. *Mobility: Ramps into the building, as well as between the ceremony and reception space (which are also close together). Copious seating will be available. Bathrooms include accessible stalls and seating. There will be minimal dancing. *Hypervigilance and overstimulation: It is easy to step outside if needed. Multiple hallways and side rooms you can escape to. *Anxiety: Extensive FAQs, schedule, and other information provided in advance.

Question

Why is the Bride doing that?

Answer

This could apply to any number of behaviors you may witness Helyn doing between now and the wedding. As some of you may have already seen, Helyn has a bit of a tumultuous history as a wedding guest. Attending weddings has caused everything from panic attacks to extreme overstimulation to physical illness. If Helyn has attended your wedding, please don't feel bad about this. Just know that her presence at your wedding meant she loves you that much more. Nevertheless, we are trying to avoid such negative experiences at this wedding. Please know that Helyn is so happy and grateful for your presence, even if she needs to step away, wear ear plugs, or do other things that may seem a bit unusual. She just has limited energy and needs to budget it carefully.
