We encourage you to leave your vehicles and walk from your lodging accommodations to the ceremony. Copper Harbor is a small, walking friendly town. There is an easy one mile, gravel bike/walk trail along US Hwy 41 from downtown to the historic Fort Wilkins State Park. If you choose to walk or bike, enter the park at the Fanny Hoe Creek Entrance. If you decide to drive, cars must enter at the park's main entrance (past the Fanny Hoe Creek entrance). NOTE: Michigan recreational passes are required to enter the park ($9 out-of-state day pass, $11 annual in-state pass). Please be aware and take this into consideration as you make transportation plans to the ceremony. Please courteously leave the parking space at the Fanny Hoe Creek/Lighthouse Lookout parking lot for bridal party member, handicap guests & photographers/videographer.
We met in college at Northern Michigan University, in our first and second years, respectively. Returning the following fall semester, we began spending more time with each other, especially in our church college group and campus ministry activities. One night at a bonfire, a dear friend nudged me, "you and Jacob Bass should be a thing...Nothing is cuter than 'Georgie Rae Dohl' except 'Georgie Rae Bass'!", with her sweet Tennessee accent. I blushed and brushed it off, but the seed was planted. Throughout the school year our friendship grew, along with my feelings for him. Before parting ways for the summer of 2015, we admitted our fondness of each other, but thought it best to spend the summer 'praying about it.' It wasn't for another ten months, however, that we gave into our feelings and God's design that we'd been trying to deny. For the following year, we battled long distance while working at camp, on mission trips, studying abroad and student teaching. In April, upon his return home to the Upper Peninsula, Jacob proposed on the shores of Lake Superior, a special place throughout the development of our relationship. This summer, we're actually together, serving at Kidder Creek Camp in Etna, California and preparing for a joyous celebration of marriage!
