It was Wednesday, June 28th, 2017 when my best friend, Brittney, and I went to the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar, CA. Jacob was stationed in Miramar, CA in the Marines at the time and his father, Chris, was in town. They went to the fair the day before, on June 27th, but when they got there, they realized the fair is closed on Tuesdays. They decided to go the next day, June 28th, which happened to be the same day Brittney and I went. When Brittney and I arrived at the entrance of the fair that Wednesday, I noticed a cute guy driving a Subaru directly in front of us. We continued to drive behind them all the way to the overflow dirt parking lot in the back. We ended up parking directly to the left of them. I was in the passenger seat and Jacob was driving his Subaru, which put us in that awkward position where you wait to open your car door because you don't want them to open theirs at the same time making you bump doors. We made eye contact getting out of our vehicles but didn't speak, then we walked separately into the fair. As Brittney and I walked around the fair, playing games, going on rides, and shopping, I saw Jacob about four other times. This was a coincidence considering how many people attend the fair, but how could I miss him with his height! Brittney and I decided to leave the fair around 10:30 pm and the fair closed at 11 pm. When we got to her car I saw Jacob's car was still there, which is another coincidence because the parking lot was almost empty by that time. I left a note under Jacob's windshield wiper giving him my Instagram name, although Jacob likes to tell people he lassoed me at the Rodeo. From that day forward we couldn't stop talking and the rest is history!
It was July 4th, 2020. A very special day. Not only Independence day, but the day we had our first kiss in 2017. The proposal was nothing but perfect. The Rocky Mountain Lodge in Conejos County, Colorado is an important place for all of Jacob's family and a tradition that has lasted decades. Each year we're there, we always hike to the waterfall that is just across the lodge. Our first year there together was 2018. When we hiked the waterfall for the first time, we carved J+B in a heart into an Aspen tree and each year we go back to the hike to find that tree. I did not have any idea that Jacob was going to propose because we haven't discussed it very much and I did not think he had asked my father for permission yet. Turns out, on Father's Day weekend, when Jacob went to Albuquerque, NM to visit his Dad, he also flew to San Diego for just two hours to ask my Dad for his permission to marry me. We got up to the waterfall on the fourth of July, 2020 and that is when he got down on one knee and proposed. I was overjoyed with happiness, I couldn't believe it. As we got back to the lodge after the hike, to top off the proposal, my family jumped out from hiding behind a tree. I was in shock that they drove all the way from San Diego to be there. It meant the world to me and it could not have been more perfect. I will forever cherish this moment.
