How We Met

Bluefield Brought Us Together

We both came to Bluefield College in the fall of 2015 with Amber's intentions set on teaching and Jacob's on pharmacy. We met during freshmen/transfer move-in week at Adventures on the Gorge in Lansing, WV while eating pizza with a group of students. We became friends quickly as we hung out in group environments. On February 13, 2016, Amber's parents came to visit while Jacob already had feelings for her but was unsure of her feelings towards him. During a play we all attended, Jacob decided to make his move and put his arm around Amber which surprised both Amber and her parents but also Jacob. After her parents left, Amber wanted to talk with Jacob which led to us both admitting our mutual attraction to one another. Jacob had begun the process of switching his major to Christian Studies due to his call to preaching. We both began to quickly realize the difficulties of dating in college but also the immense benefits. Whether it was seeing each other every day or having to spend summer and winter breaks apart, we both knew that the relationship was destined for marriage. We have been together for over two years and can truly say we are both engaged to our best friend and cannot wait for marriage!

How I Proposed

She Didn't See It Coming

I, Jacob, had bought the ring towards the end of December of 2017 as we were approaching our 2nd year together. I had made this plan that we would go home the weekend before our anniversary where her parents would meet us to give me the blessing which would lead to me asking Amber to marry me. Buttttt, Amber began to get suspicious of my plan which I found out about thanks to her roommate Anna Oliver. I decided I needed to do something that was more spontaneous, so I texted Anna and one of my groomsman, Goose, that today (January 21st) after church was the day. We typically went to our pastor's house after church for lunch where he has a beautiful yard in the mountains which I knew was the perfect place to ask Amber since we had taken pictures there before. After we finished eating, I told some of the pastor's family that we were going outside to take pictures together and that I was going to ask Amber to marry me. We began to take pictures as Goose and I were goofing around which threw Amber off in case she had suspicions. I had all of these sweet and romantic things to say to her once I got down on one knee that all went away as soon as she turned to see my kneeling there. I asked her to marry me which (miraculously) she said yes to! I am so excited that she will be my wife very soon.

For all the days along the way
