a Lubbe Love story

Back in 2018, when Shiria and Jaco were studying at the University of Pretoria, they landed in the same Calculus tutorial group – but little did they know that this class will change their lives forever. Jaco quickly noticed Shiria in the classroom and thought it best to “ask her for some help” in order to strike up a conversation. Being as helpful as she is, Shiria obliged and helped Jaco right through the semester. At first, she was oblivious of Jaco’s intentions, but later caught on that Jaco wasn’t actually struggling with the Calculus at all! He had already passed 2 years of Calculus in his Engineering degree! Yes, you guessed it – he was a great actor. We’ve got to give him credit for that. On 14 June 2018, Jaco asked Shiria to be his official girlfriend by creating a scavenger hunt with letters and clues all over the Magaliespark Golf Course. Every hole they played had a letter and a clue that led to the next one. Needless to say, she said yes. As the years rolled by, Shiria and Jaco went through many milestones together. To name just a few: 2 Graduations 7 House/apartment moves 5 Birthdays 4 Degrees 5 Jobs 2 Family member losses 7 Friend and family weddings On 17 September 2022, Jaco asked Shiria to be his wife. Oraganising this as a surprise was no easy feat! For those of you who know Shiria, know that he does not particularly like surprises and is very good at sniffing out any secret plans. The only way Jaco could fool her, was to have her plan it herself – without her realising it! Shiria planned a whole day outing for Jaco’s birthday (16 September), which they celebrated on the Saturday, 17 September 2022. They went for brunch at Tasha’s and then went for a walk in Delta Park, Johannesburg. Just before they left for the next item on the agenda, Jaco requested a picture of the two of them to remember the day. He set up the camera and started recording – to Shiria’s surprise! The rest is history and now it’s time for their new season. "Thank you for the contributions you have made to our lives and our Lubbe Love Story.
