How We Met

Chapman campus cafeteria, spring in the year of our Lord 2007.

Katherine and her roommate, Katherine Herrmann, went to lunch in the cafeteria. As they sat down with a group of people, Katherine introduced Katherine to Jack. He could do a spot-on Jack Sparrow impersonation. Katherine knew her type so kept an eye on this movie-loving/pirate-impersonating fellow. As the end of the school year approached and Katherine was about to leave campus, she saw Jack heading off to the cafeteria. She ran up to him and suggested he get a Facebook profile so they could stay in touch over the summer. He did. They did. When Katherine and Jack returned to campus, they continued their online flirtation in person amidst classes and trips to Disneyland. They head-butted and chin-butted each other but never kissed... until October 7th, 2007 while down in San Diego volunteering for Beach Fest. They've been together ever since, graduating college for the chic livin' in the San Fernando Valley, adopting their little panther, Cagney, traveling the world, weathering the loss of grandparents, partying with their amazing friends, playing board games, and kicking colon cancer's ass. If these years together have been any indication, married life's going to be hard but also freakin' rock (just maybe no more Battle Shots)! On October 7th, 2022, we'll have been together for 15 years. And what better way to celebrate that than the following day with a wedding surrounded by our friends and family? Can't wait to see y'all in Houston!

The Proposal

November 29, 2019

On the last day of our Thanksgiving trip to visit Jack's family in Hawaii, Jack took Katherine out to the beach to "look for sea turtles." Jack didn't know that Katherine had found the ring over a year ago while cleaning for a party and suspected there was more going on than just searching for the adorable endangered reptiles. Jack took Katherine out onto the lava rocks and revealed the ring. Many happy tears ensued, followed by tears due to sunscreen in Katherine's eye. They got back to the shore where Jack was able to safely get down on one knee and pop the question. Katherine and Jack returned to the house where Jack's parents and his brother, Max, were avidly working on a puzzle. Katherine wore the ring and helped them finish the puzzle. Jack and Katherine tried several other visual cues to get the family to notice, to no avail. As they were leaving for the airport, Jack asked his mother what she thought of Katherine's new ring. Big congrats ensued and Katherine and Jack have been dreaming of celebrating their wedding and new life together ever since! We can't wait for you to share in our special day with us!
