Our Story

High School to Present

Bride's POV: We met my junior year of high school through mutual friends and the various activities we were both involved in at BCLUW High School. With a school that small we ran into each other often. We didn't really start to get to know each other until my senior year though. Clark and I started out as friends and got to know each other and the more I learned about him the more interested in him I became. We continued to grow as friends, talking more and spending time together separate from our usual friend group. In April of 2011 Clark asked me to officially be his girlfriend. I said yes and never looked back. We've been together ever since that day. Growing together throughout our college years at UNI and even now living together here in Cedar Falls. Groom's POV: We met and had many mutual interests. Choir, theater, sports, etc. I thought at some point that she would stop talking to me after all my dumb jokes and stupid puns but to my amazement she continued to talk to me everyday. It came to a point in our relationship that we knew there would be the difficulty of distance but I don't think we ever felt it too hard. She went to college while I still had 2 years of high school left but our time apart only made our relationship stronger and I felt an overwhelming sense of support from her as well. She was always at my plays, games, and concerts. We eventually ended up at UNI together again and grew together over 4 years. I asked her to be my forever best friend after almost 7 years of dating and she barely had to think about it.

The Proposal

February 3, 2018

We'd made plans for the weekend to play board games together, but I had to go and mess up the plans a little bit by going to our friend's house instead to play with a group of people rather than just ourselves. That night we joked around with our friends about engagements and marriage with Clark using his usual joke of waiting until our 11 year dating anniversary just to "beat" our friends Kaity and Chris on time spent dating before an engagement. Little did I know how short my wait time would really be! The 3rd was a normal day for us, I honestly can't remember what I even was doing during the day anymore. Clark asked to go out for dinner at Texas Roadhouse and then we'd play some boardgames when we got home. We got ready for the evening and went out like any other date night. I'd been showing Clark rings off and on for a few months and was talking his ear off at the dinner table about styles and colors. He played it all off really well because I didn't suspect a single thing. We finished dinner and went home, me immediately dashing up the stair to put on sweats for game night. Clark stopped me and asked if I could come back downstairs. Me, being the stubborn soul that I am, told him I'd be back after I changed. He, again, asked me to wait and come back down. So I marched back down the stairs and waited to hear what he had to say. I STILL at this point have absolutely no idea what's going on. I'm truly amazed I didn't. Clark starts talking about our life together so far, and about how happy he is. I can now sense something serious is going on but my brain is going a million miles a minute working through worst case scenarios to best case until I land on what was really happening. Clark is continuing his speech about wanting to spend life together and then drops to his knee with a gorgeous ring! Obviously I said yes and here we are now. I'm so excited to spend the rest of my life with my best friend.
