How We Met

Jackie and Joe first crossed paths on a dating app called The League. For Jackie, it was her very first date through the app—and being a true crime enthusiast, she was so nervous about becoming the subject of her own crime podcast that she had her sister drive her to the date “just in case.” Joe, on the other hand, had been on more than a few first dates before. But from the moment Jackie walked in, something felt different. As soon as they sat down, the conversation flowed so easily—covering psychology, movies, and how terrifying (and funny) online dating can be. For Jackie, the nerves melted into laughter; for Joe, the search was suddenly over. That night marked the first page of a forever love story.

How He Asked

Exactly one year after their very first date, Joe had a plan. The day had already been packed full of celebrations: a hair appointment as an anniversary gift, a surprise party for one of Jackie’s bridesmaids, and cheering on the Eagles as they secured their spot in the Super Bowl at Texas Roadhouse. By the time they arrived at The Social in West Chester—the restaurant where it all began—they were sharing their fifth meal of the day, and Jackie, though slightly suspicious earlier, had convinced herself she had miscalculated. After dinner, they began walking back to the car. Joe stopped at the very spot where he had dropped Jackie off after their first date, the same spot where he hadn’t kissed her because Jackie’s sister was waiting for her (see How We Met). This time, he turned to her and said that although he didn’t kiss her that night, he wanted to make up for it now. After they kissed, Joe looked at her and said, “The next time I kiss you in this spot, I want you to be my fiancée.” Then he got down on one knee and asked Jackie to marry him. Completely overwhelmed (in the best way), Jackie cried, asked “Are you sure?”—and then, of course, said yes. Joe had even hired a photographer to capture the moment and take them on a mini photoshoot afterward. To top off the perfect night, he whisked Jackie off to a bar—where she promptly realized she had forgotten her ID. Luckily, as the newly engaged couple and guests of honor, they were let in without a problem, and Jackie walked in to find both of their families waiting to celebrate.
