✈️ Travel FAQ for Our Wedding in Cartagena, Colombia We’re thrilled to celebrate with you in Cartagena! Whether it's your first time in Colombia or you're a seasoned traveler, this FAQ will help make your trip smooth and fun. 🏙️ About Cartagena Cartagena is a vibrant city on Colombia’s Caribbean coast with two distinct areas worth exploring. The Old City (Walled City) is a historic gem filled with cobblestone streets, colorful colonial buildings, shops, galleries, bars, and top-notch restaurants. It’s lively, walkable, and our favorite area to stay! The New City (Bocagrande) features modern high-rises with ocean views, perfect for relaxing or lounging by the pool. ✈️ The airport is centrally located, and getting to either part of the city is easy — usually just a 15–20 minute ride.
Question

✍️ Do I need to fill out any forms before arriving in Colombia?

Answer

Yes — Colombia requires travelers to complete a short immigration form before arriving. It’s very easy to fill out and takes just a few minutes. You can do it here: 👉 https://apps.migracioncolombia.gov.co/pre-registro/en Once completed, you’ll receive a PDF. Just take a screenshot and save it on your phone. Airlines sometimes ask to see it, so it’s best to have it handy.

Question

🚗 How do I get around in Cartagena?

Answer

Uber is available in Cartagena and we highly recommend using it. It’s reliable, easy, and eliminates t he need to negotiate fares with taxi drivers. If you do take a taxi, be sure to agree on the fare beforehand.

Question

📱 Will my phone work in Colombia?

Answer

Most major U.S. carriers (like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile) offer international roaming or add-on plans for Colombia. Check with your provider before your trip to make sure you're covered. Wi-Fi is widely available in hotels, restaurants, and cafes.

Question

💳 Should I bring cash or exchange currency?

Answer

Cartagena is very credit card-friendly — you can use cards at most restaurants, shops, and tour services, and even for Uber. That said, it’s smart to carry a small amount of Colombian pesos for tips, street vendors, or small purchases. 👉 Note: If you plan to take a boat to one of the islands, the port charges a cash-only fee, so bring a little extra for that. ATMs are widely available and usually offer better exchange rates than airport kiosks.

Question

🔌 Do I need a power adapter?

Answer

Nope! Colombia uses the same voltage (110V) and plug types (A & B) as the U.S., so your chargers and electronics will work just fine.

Question

🔐 Is Cartagena safe?

Answer

Cartagena is one of Colombia’s most popular and well-traveled cities. Like any tourist destination, it’s wise to stay aware of your surroundings, avoid wearing flashy jewelry, and keep valuables secure. Stick to busy areas, especially at night. We've always felt safe here, and we think you'll love it too.

Question

🧳 What should I pack?

Answer

Here are a few essentials we recommend: Sunscreen – The Caribbean sun is strong! Light, breathable clothing – It’s warm and humid year-round. Comfortable shoes – Especially for walking around the cobblestone streets in the Old City. Swimwear – Great for pool days and island adventures.

Question

🚰 Can I drink the water?

Answer

To be safe, stick with bottled or filtered water. Most hotels and restaurants provide bottled water, and it’s easy to find and inexpensive throughout the city.
