Jack and Kaet both attended Northern Illinois University. Even though they only lived a few houses apart on Greek Row, they did not have much interaction until Jack retuned as an alumni in the fall of 2014. Jack returned for Homecoming that year and entertained his Phi Kap brothers at Rosie's bar. Being the nice guy that he is, Jack offered to buy Kaet a round of drinks. Being the independent and stubborn woman that she is, Kaet declined his offers. After his unsuccessful weekend of securing his woman at NIU, Jack returned to Austin, Texas. A few months later, he returned to DeKalb again to visit the brothers of Phi Kappa Theta. Kaet and Jack happened to cross paths that night and hit it off right away. They dated for a year long distance, but unfortunately, the distance resulted in a break-up. Their love was rekindled in 2019 after Jack moved back to Chicago and they have been together ever since!

Jack knew how much Kaet loved Christmas. He planned to take her to a tree farm to pick out their Christmas tree for the season--or that was the story he told her! The entire week prior to the proposal, Jack had to go into the "office" in the suburbs. But in reality, he was building the pergola and prepping for the big day at Kaet's sister and brother-in-law's house. Jack gave Kaet strict instructions (without giving it away) of what time to meet at Jess and Chris's in order to go to the tree farm. He even told her to show up dressed and ready (but she wasn't dressed yet, of course)! Kaet pulled up to the house and got out of her car to go inside and her sister appeared behind her. She said to leave her stuff in the car and was videoing. Jess took Kaet by the hand and lead her to the side gate. The pathway before her was lined with lights and lead down to a pergola covered in lights and ivy, where Jack was standing there waiting. The moment she saw Jack, she knew what was happening and was overcome with emotion. Of course, she said yes, then was greeted with one last surprise: the presence of their friends and family to celebrate. The most romantic pandemic- proposal!
