Where to even begin… well, to tell the Jack and Blair story we have to go back to the fall of '14. Contrary to popular belief, Blair actually caught my eye a few weeks before the famous White Party. It was at a party thrown by the Bellarmine Lax team at our old house on Rutherford Ave in Louisville. Two girls that I have never seen before walk though my door. Instinctually I have to make my way to see who they are and what they could possibly be doing at our party. Well it turns out that the blonde who walked in the door came up to my roommate Shanks and I because they knew each other from the country up North, Canada. As they are exchanging pleasantries I can see this red head, pretty unsure of what she should be doing or who she would associate herself with in the chaos of our front room. Obviously it was going to take a lot more than a tall guy in a shirt with Tupacs face on it to get this girl to look my way (I was a real winner in college). As I ask, who would end up to be her roommate Kay, who this girl is she says her name but thinking I was way cooler than I was it goes in one ear and out the other. I like to think and say in the story that I tell people it was because I was so mesmerized by her beauty. Unfortunately, the reality was I had a few too many beers and was working on a pickup line where you start a conversation with a girl using the wrong name and continue to misuses the name as if you can’t keep track. Not only was this a poor attempt at trying to talk to a beautiful girl, but embarrassingly the first name that came to my mind was Gwen. Gwen? Where the hell could I have possibly heard that name. (I reiterate I was a huge loser in college before Blair came into my life). Any way, pretty much all I get out of her is a confused conversation and a quick goodbye as her and Kay slip out the door not too long after coming by. Blair - 1 : Jack - 0
Then comes a night that would go down in history as the night I met Blair. The famous White Party, Labor Day weekend. I never thought I would meet my future wife walking into a party where I knew about four people and was wearing a peg leg with a broken foot. Luckily we had a few weeks for her to forget about my ill attempt of talking to her, and honestly thank my lucky stars that I saw this girl in the most beautiful white dress. Lucky for me I knew a girl at the party who ended up being on the same lax team as Blair. Steph, who was pretty familiar with just about everybody there, was the first person I could ask to tell me who this girl was. From my memory she says “Thats Blair, she’s a honey.” So I have to figure out a way to talk to her, so I catch her playing beer pong and then see her making her rounds to people at the party, but my thought process is to hang out by the bathroom in this little hallway. I felt that way because its the kind of a place you would run into everyone walking from one room to the other or if anyone had to use the bathroom. (playing the odds) So me and my peg leg and a few teammates make our way to this spot in hopes to get an opportunity just to speak to this girl I couldn’t take my eyes off of. So I finally see she’s close, but she has been constantly bombarded with guy after guy tryin to get her attention. So I go with the “shoot your shot” approach. I walk up to her and just tell her what I have been thinking the whole night. I say “You are the most beautiful thing I have ever laid my eyes on, and I would love to kiss you right now.” And as a smile rose on her face the greatest thing you could possibly hear from that line I threw out, she said “Then why don’t you.” And I took that opportunity to kiss the crap out of her. From there I thought I was on top of the world, later getting her number and thinking I was all that. Come to find out later that I was just one of nine guys that got her number that night. The following week we eventually get some time where I can tag along with my roommate Shanks as he try’s to hangout with Kay, and to be honest this was the best thing to happen to me. This opened the best opportunity to put in some quality time while being just a helpful friend tagging along, little did they know I was head over heels for this red head I had no business talking too. But somehow she liked me, must have thought I was funny or something because I know it wasn’t my looks. Let me paint a picture of what I looked like. I was just coming off of my freshman fifteen off-season bod. I had long hair thinking I was a sick California kid. And on top of that I was dressing in cat shirts and jeans I had from sophomore year of high school. Gotta love billabong. Needless to say meeting Blair has definitely changed me for the better. A funny side story on that is the first time she mentioned that she likes the store Lululemon. I had no idea what the heck that even was but when she asked if I liked the clothes from there I did what any man trying to impress a girl does, I lied. And as soon as I left I got online and ordered a shirt that was at my house two days later. It did not take her long to call me out. Okay back to the story- So this went on for a couple of more weeks before I mustered up the courage to ask her to our formal dance where we had the best night enjoying each other and getting the one on one time that would eventually push us to date a few months later. After a couple football tailgates, a few lacrosse parties and some great halloween costumes later I finally muster up the courage to ask her to date me. Her answer, maybe. But I chalk that up to a win because the next morning we were dating. Blair - 2 : Jack - 1 sweet.
