After a few months at an art school in Northern California, Audrey came home for Thanksgiving break. She had been begging her parents to let her leave her old high school permanently once the semester was over. With just two months before she would have to return, her parents found Vistamar and scheduled a tour for the Monday after Thanksgiving. Of the six classes she sat in on, Jack Burns—referred to by all his peers as "Jack Burns, American Hero"—was in five of them. In January 2017, Audrey showed up in those same five classes for good—this time with pink hair. By the summer of 2017, Jack and Audrey were in the same group of friends. And on January 20, 2018, they were officially dating and thinking about what the future might hold. That summer, they graduated high school. Jack moved permanently to Dallas, TX, with his family, and Audrey started undergrad in Rochester, NY. They stayed in touch as friends. Months passed. They both dated a bit and got a feel for being young adults in new places, eventually falling out of touch. In September 2019, they reconnected and started dating again—this time long distance. Audrey began searching for a new undergrad program, and Jack started his college career. After touring a university in Texas and deciding to transfer there in the fall of 2020, Audrey’s plans were put on hold when COVID shut down the world. In the middle of lockdown and long distance, Jack asked Audrey to marry him. At first, she thought he was joking (equal parts because the world felt like it was ending and they were both only 20 years old)... but he wasn’t. After designing a ring together and having lots of conversations about what marriage meant to them, Jack proposed again with the ring they made—this time Audrey said yes. Five years later, armed with two bachelor’s degrees, a puppy, a successful cross-country move, and some grown-up jobs, we’re more than ready to tie the knot!
