Distances are round trip In Town - Bald Mountain: Beginner, 3.2 mi / 1000 ft elevation to the Scenic Overlook. Intermediate, 7.7 mi / 2,100 ft to the Roundhouse (or hike up and take the free gondola ride down). Expert, 11 mi / 3,400 ft to the summit. White Cloud Trails: Beginner. 4 mi / 500 ft elevation. Can access across the street from the Sun Valley Lodge. Proctor Mountain: Moderate. 3.5 mi / 1000 ft elevation. Accessible by Car - Baker Lake (Beginner) and Norton Lake (Intermediate): access both hikes via the same I-75 turn-off 15 miles outside of town. 3.6 mi / 870 ft and 4.6 mi / 1,475 ft elevation, respectively. Redfish Lake: drive over the beautiful Galena Pass to Redfish Lake (~1 hr drive). Easy to Moderate. 15.1 mi / 3,000 ft elevation but turn back whenever you're ready. Stop for an infamous Smiley Creek milkshake on the way back! Pioneer Cabin: Expert. 8 mi / 2570 ft elevation.
Rent bikes and ride along the beautiful bike path. We recommend heading North out of town to the Hemingway Memorial, the "Elkhorn Loop" connecting Ketchum and the residential neighborhood of Elkhorn, or heading South from Ketchum along the Big Wood River (you can turn around at any point, but ~20 miles gets you to Hailey). There are plenty of mountain biking trails for the more adventurous folks looking to get off road. Hire a guide and enjoy a half or full day on the water. Check with the fly shops for what's fishing well, but options include: Wading: Bigwood River (easy for a half day right outside of town), or take the overpass towards Mackay and fish the Big Lost River. Innertube floating: Silver Creek Preserve Boat float trip: head over the Galena summit to Stanley and fish the Salmon River (full day trip).
