If you've never been to Austin, Texas, it is about a 35 - 40-minute drive from Wimberley, Texas, and is a vibrant city which offers a mix of live music, outdoor activities, great food, shopping, fun nightlife and cultural attractions and museums (including the Texas Capital Building). S Congress Avenue is a great walking street and a good place to start if you don't know where to go!
The Austin food scene is hard to beat! The city is best known for its Texas barbecue and Tex-Mex but really all of the food is so good. Some of the most popular spots you can find through the link below, but a few of our favorites are Pinthouse Pizza, El Alma, Fig Italian Restaurant, Texas Honey Ham Company, the Salty Donut, Terry Black's, Aba Austin, Uchiko Austin, Mozart's Coffee Roasters, and Yamas Greek Restaurant.
All throughout Austin, TX, Wimberley, Texas, and surrounding areas, there are a variety of watering holes, hiking trails, lakes, rivers, etc. Zilker Park, Lady Bird Lake, Longhorn Cavern, Hamilton Pool, Lake Travis, Barton Creek Pool, and the hiking trails on the Barton Creek Trail system are all pretty fun/popular spots!
Austin's nightlife is renowned for its diverse and vibrant scene, with a strong emphasis on live music and various bar and club options. Some of our favorite places are: the Continental Club on S Congress, the bars on 6th street (more detailed description of this below), and some outdoor bars named "Meanwhile" and "Armadillo Den". 6th Street has two parts - "Dirty Sixth" which means the eastern section of 6th Street in Austin, Texas, specifically between Congress Avenue and I-35. This area is known for its lively nightlife, bars, and music venues, often associated with a younger and rowdier crowd. "6th Street" generally refers to the entire street, including both the "Dirty Sixth" and the "West Sixth" (west of Congress Avenue) areas. There are a variety of types of bars all along this street!
