Travel Note
Yes, you will need a passport to travel to Mexico and please check expiration dates! The link below will provide you with information on getting a passport or renewing your passport. The sooner you get this done the better as it can take up to 11 weeks for all documents to get processed and for your passport to be issued.
Flight
We ask all guests to book flights arriving at Cancun International Airport. Because you will be taking a ferry to Isla Mujeres, please note the important information below as the ferry does not run 24 hours per day: 1) Do not book a flight that lands to the Cancun Airport after 8:45 PM (the last ferry to the island is at 11:00 PM) 2) Do not book a flight that departs Cancun airport before 9:30 AM.
Travel Note
Once you arrive at Cancun International Airport, you will go through Customs and then to baggage claim. Should you need pesos, there is a place to exchange money prior to walking out the airport. It is located across from the car rental booths on the right hand side. From our recent trip to Mexico, exchange rates at the airport were similar to those on the island. Once outside, you will look for someone holding a CARM sign, this is your transfer to the ferry.
Travel Note
CARM Tours and Transfers will transport you from the airport to Gran Puerto Juarez Ultramar Ferry Dock in Cancun. The price is $60 USD per person for round trip transportation & round trip ferry ticket. Please use link below for further information and instructions for how to book. It's crucial that you submit your forms after booking your flights or at least 2 weeks before your arrival date. Once the page closes (about a week before the first arrivals), it cannot be added. When you de-board the ferry in Isla Mujeres, you can carry your luggage to your hotel if nearby, hire a maletero (man with bicycle cart) to carry your luggage and walk with him to your hotel if it is close, or take a taxi. The taxi stand is to your left as you exit the ferry terminal. Private transportation companies such as CARM are not allowed to operate on Isla Mujeres.
Travel Note
There are many great hotels on the island and specifically on Playa Norte beyond what we have listed below. We encourage you to do a google search for hotels on Playa Norte and read reviews. It may be helpful to see how far you will be from Playa Arena (where we will be staying) just as a reference point. Playa Norte is very walkable and relatively small so even if you're not staying near us, it's very likely we will be able to spend time together should you wish. If you have questions about specific hotels please reach out and we can share what, if anything, we may know.

There are many lovely AirBnB options on the island. We encourage people who want to be within walking distance to bars and restaurants to stay on Playa Norte. If you choose an AirBnB on the south end of the island, you may need to taxi to Playa Norte and Hidalgo Street (downtown area). Please know that the island is very small and a taxi will likely cost you less than $10 to go from one end of the island to the other. You can also choose to rent a golf cart and explore on your own.
