HOW WE MET: ISABELLA'S POV

April 15th, 2022

In the beginning of April last year, Elaine, a good friend of mine, mentioned to me that she met a really cute young guy after Mass who has a great sense of humor. I knew what she was doing... and I completely blew her off, and thought nothing of it for about 7 minutes. Until she left the room and I proceeded to look Conor up on social media. I was intrigued... I was interested. Elaine told me that Conor will be at the young adult event on Good Friday. We had a group going to see the new Father Stu movie. I remember seeing him on Good Friday Mass across the church and my stomach got butterflies! After Mass I was in Elaine's office and who did I lock eyes with in the window? Conor! So I went on my way to the MJR movie theater with a pep in my step and that is where Conor and I officially met! With it being a group event we did not have much one on one time. However, I left that event knowing that this would not be the last time I was around Mr. Conor Lawlis. A couple weeks went by and I realized I needed some volunteers for a middle school ministry I was starting. So I messaged Conor and a couple other young adults to help me at this event. Yes, I did the modern day dropping the handkerchief effect, if you know you know. So on May 16th, 2022 Conor came to help me. We had kids who came so early to the event that I was not able to chat one on one with Conor, but we ran that event together as if we had known each other for years! Once all the kids left we began laughing about the funny things that happened between the kids, and natural conversation just continued to flow between us. We continued to chat outside in the church parking lot until 11:30pm. It was a 3.5 hour conversation with my future husband. I just knew so clearly. That very day before we departed he asked me on a date. When I got home I wrote in my journal, “Lord, I want to walk to heaven with Conor.” And now we are getting married!

HOW WE MET: CONOR'S POV

April 15th, 2022

It was a cold and rainy Good Friday afternoon on April 15th, 2022. At this point of my life, I had just made it through (what I thought was my last) long Michigan winter and was planning on moving myself to Fort Myers, Florida the very next month. I was so sick of the snow and the entire winter I was just counting down the days until I could get out of Michigan. The only thing keeping me here was that I still had to graduate from The College for Creative Studies. I even had my calendar marked with, “FLORIDA BOUND” for exactly 1 month later. I couldn’t wait to pack my bags and head to the sunshine state! But little did I know, God was about to bring the sunshine right here to me. I headed to Christ, Our Light! Church in Troy for the Good Friday Mass, and was planning on attending the Young Adults event directly after. We were going to the MJR Troy theater to see the new Father Stu movie. After Mass I was walking out of the church and noticed a light on in one of the offices. As I walked by, I locked eyes with the most BEAUTIFUL girl. A girl who I would later come to know as Isabella Fischer! I remember thinking to myself, “Wow, I wonder if she is coming to this Young Adult event!” A little while later, my friend Colin and I drove over to the theater. I opened the door at MJR and BOOM! there was Isabella again! Since it was a group event, we didn’t get much 1 on 1 time. However, as we walked into our theater, Isabella turned around and said “Hi, I’m Isabella, what is your name again?” Funny enough, she already knew EXACTLY who I was, but I have to say her acting skills were pretty phenomenal. The movie was great, and we had a brief group discussion afterwards. As I left the theater, I heard a voice call out, “It was great meeting you!” Sure enough, it was her again! A few weeks went by, and I hadn’t seen Isabella again at church since she was at another location with Mary’s Mantle. It wasn’t until May 11th when my phone suddenly buzzed. I looked down and saw a message from Isabella to the Young Adults group asking for volunteers for the middle school ministry she was leading. At that exact moment, I laughed out loud. Something about that message felt so magical and I just knew it was directed at me. I showed up and together we ran the middle school group. It was like we had known each other for years! After the kids left, I ended up standing and talking to Isabella for 3.5 hours in the church Parking lot. That very day I asked her out on a date, the rest is history!
