Bainbridge Island, WA

Isabel & Tyler

Travel and Lodging

For those who have never been to lovely Bainbridge Island, it's located via a 35-minute ferry ride from Seattle, WA. We are delighted to have all of our friends and family get to experience the place that shaped both of us and highly encourage everyone to stay on island for the wedding weekend. Bainbridge boasts a cute downtown amongst a semi-rural setting and makes for a wonderful spot to explore beaches, parks and small town shops. The island has limited lodging options, so advanced planning is needed. We have two hotel blocks (see below), in addition there are Airbnb and VRBO options across the island. For those looking to stay closer to nature there are camping options at Fay Bainbridge State Park. Seattle has many lodging options and doesn't require as much advanced planning, however it does require the ferry to and from the island.

Travel Note

Ferry from Seattle

The Washington State ferries are impressive ships and the ride from Seattle to Bainbridge is very scenic. If you are walking onto the ferry you will need to purchase a ticket at the ticket booth, note you only pay one way (Seattle to Bainbridge) and don't need to purchase a ticket on the return trip (Bainbridge to Seattle). The ferries get VERY behind schedule in the summer. We recommend coming to the island early as ferries are unpredictable and regularly 30-60 minutes late. If you are driving a car onto the ferry, you will need to plan 2-3 hours for the journey as the ferries fill the car section very quickly and you often miss 1-2 boats depending on how busy the boats are. If you plan to stay in Seattle and just come over for the wedding, we do not recommend driving on the ferry. You can also always bike onto the ferry and bypass the car lines! An alternative is driving around through Tacoma, the drive to Bainbridge from Seattle is about 2 hours.
