The word “Sangeet “ means music, but when it is used as a term to describe a celebratory event during an Indian wedding it translates to Music Night or Musical party. This musical night is a celebration of the union of not only the couple but the bonding of both families. The Sangeet is a traditional Indian celebration that will include food, drinks, and dancing, which will take place outside. There will be dinner served as a welcome to all guests who are present for our Indian ceremony and reception. Bring your appetite and dancing shoes!!
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Modest dress, formal attire. Indian outfits are welcome but not required. Please avoid the color red.
This ceremony is the traditional Sikh Ceremony from Punjab, India. Head coverings are required for men (head scarf will be provided) and women (bring your own dupatta or head scarf/shawl) during the ceremony and guests will be sitting on the ground with legs crossed. Modest dress is acceptable; bare shoulders, plunging necklines and short skirts will be out of place at a religious venue but will be fine for the reception which normally does not take place in the Gurdwara. Some women prefer to take a shawl that they can throw over their shoulders, and wear pants to the Gurdwara and then wear a skirt to the reception. That way your outfit is acceptable at both venues. For anyone who has any questions on what to expect at an Anand Karaj, please view the FAQ page!
