Guadalajara International Airport
About a 30 minute drive
We highly recommend it. WhatsApp is the main way people communicate in Mexico, including drivers, hotels, and local businesses. It works on Wi-Fi, so you don't need an international phone plan, and it makes coordinating rides, reservations, and wedding details much easier.
Daytime ranges from 75-80 degrees Nighttime ranges from 50-55 degrees
Yes, but streets are cobblestone. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
Welcome Party: Cocktail attire. Wedding: Black Tie. Tuxedos for men and formal full-length gowns for women. The venue is mainly grass, so avoid stilettos. Farewell Party: Casual.
Most places in Ajijic accept credit cards and many also accept U.S. dollars. However, it’s still a good idea to have some Mexican pesos on hand for small purchases, taxis, tips, or local markets. You can exchange money at the airport, withdraw pesos from an ATM, or bring a small amount with you.
Ajijic is about 30 minutes from Guadalajara International Airport (GDL). We are planning to offer some shuttle options, but capacity will depend on when guests arrive. A very easy option is to take an airport taxi. They are safe, regulated, and you’ll see a large taxi counter immediately after exiting baggage claim. Just tell them you are going to Ajijic and give them your hotel name. Rates typically range from $35–$50 USD
Ajijic is a well-known expat and retirement community with a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Many residents of Ajijic speak english. As with any destination, normal travel precautions apply—be aware of your surroundings, don’t leave belongings unattended. Overall, it is considered very safe for visitors.
Not required. Ajijic is walkable, your hotel can help you arrange private drivers, and many guests will share rides. Parking is limited at some hotels.
We have recommended hotels listed on the travel page of this website. Ajijic has boutique hotels, lake-view properties, and charming casitas within walking or short driving distance to the venue.
Chapinaya is an outdoor garden venue with stunning lake and mountain views. Weather is mild in February, but evenings can get cool—consider bringing a shawl or jacket for nighttime festivities.
Ajijic’s streets are cobblestone and the wedding venue is mostly grass. We recommend wedges, block heels, or dressy flats for the ladies, and comfortable dress shoes for the men.
We are planning wedding-day shuttles from Hotel Real De Chapala. Final details will be shared closer to the date once we have everyone’s travel itineraries.
We recommend arriving 20-30 minutes before the ceremony begins to get seated and enjoy the views.
