Kevin and I met in June of 2015. He had just finished undergrad at LSU and I was working full-time in Baton Rouge and preparing to start my graduate school program at LSU in the fall. Kevin had recently moved back to New Orleans a few weeks earlier and was working full time. He was still in the process of moving out of his house in BR, so we went on our first date when he came to pick up a few things from his house to take back to NOLA. Our first date was at The Chimes near LSU’s campus. We both ate red beans and talked as we got to know each other better. After dinner, we went to The Bulldog to grab a beer and chat some more. We had a great time, and we went on a few more dates before things got serious. After a while, we were seeing each other every weekend. I spent my weekends driving back and forth between Plaquemine and NOLA to spend time with him. In 2017, I was graduating from my master’s program, and I knew I wanted to start my career with Kevin by my side. It was tough doing long-ish distance, and I was ready to take the next step in our relationship. So, I applied for jobs in NOLA, and landed one shortly after graduation. I moved, and nearly three and a half years after my move, here we are! Kevin proposed on August 18, 2019 on my parents’ porch. We came to Plaquemine for the weekend to celebrate my Granny’s birthday, and we were going to take her to lunch at Mike Anderson’s. We were rushing to get out of the house to leave on time, and Kevin stopped me and told me to come back on the porch. I was so oblivious (as usual) and honestly had no idea what was going on until he got down on one knee and asked the big question. I’m still not entirely sure what he said or what I said in response, people really are right when they say that the moment is a blur! My family was there, tears and all, and I could not have been happier. Kevin’s parents met us at Mike Anderson’s, and it was such a great day celebrating with our families!
