Chris and Gabby met at the University of North Texas in 2013 in the spirit and traditions student organization, Talons. They knew of each other, but it wasn't until fall 2013 that they had their first real conversation. They continued to hang out with each other in the organization's office most days in between their classes. In 2014, they moved in together with two other roommates in an apartment down the street from UNT. Of course they grew more fond of each other as they lived with each other. Yet it was around this time that something changed...love was beginning to grow from their ever-building friendship. But as every rom-com goes, neither one of them were ready to admit their feelings for the other. They continued to live together, with one roommate well past when they graduated in spring 2016. On December 2, 2016, Chris and Gabby went out with a few friends to the Denton Square for the annual Holiday Lighting Festival and Wassail Weekend. It started to rain and was cold, so the friends decided to part ways. When Chris and Gabby got back home, Chris professed his love. Gabby remembers the phrase "[I] like you, like you," being said. Gabby too professed her love. When asked why the other never said anything before, the answer was the same: they were afraid to ruin the friendship if the other didn't feel the same way. Five years, eleven months, and one day later Chris got down on one knee and proposed to Gabby at the UNT Homecoming Bonfire.
