Ocean Drive is ranked as one of the most popular drives/bike rides in the country, with ten miles of beautiful scenery, recreational treasures, mansions, and ideal spots to pull over for picnics, fishing, kite flying, nature watching, or scenic/sunset views. Points along the drive include: Fort Adams State Park, New York Yacht Club, Hammersmith Farm, Gooseberry Beach, and Brenton Point State Park.
Take a short or long walk along Newport's scenic shoreline and listen to the waves crash against the rocks. With views of mansions on one side and breathtaking water views on the other, make sure you bring your camera along! For guests with dogs, this is a great place to take your pup for a stroll.
Fort Adams State Park is a massive coastal fortress on the bay. The 2.5 mile loop around the perimeter of this military landmark provides unmatched views of Newport Harbor, the Newport Bridge and the Bay and is one of the best sunset locations in Newport. This is also the location of Newport's famous music festivals and other awesome events.
Interested in history, art, or architecture? Check out the Newport Mansions for a glimpse into the Gilded Age. For my literature buffs, these mansions are also the location or inspiration for several classic novels and other pieces of literature.
Don't be tempted by touristy websites telling you to only visit Easton's Beach (locally known as First Beach). Take it from a local that Second Beach, or Sachuest Beach, is way better! You'll find a more relaxed vibe here with less people, less seaweed, and more waves. You can also check out the flock of surfers at the end of the beach, appropriately referred to as Surfer's End.
This frozen lemonade is a staple on Aquidneck Island. There are a few locations (as well as random stands placed throughout Newport in the summer), so you definitely can't miss it! Stephen is a watermelon lover, while Desireé is a classic lemon kind of girl.
