People

Meet our family and friends who are walking down the aisle with us on this special day:

Bobbi Hunter

Mother of the Bride

Author & Rebel Rouser Bobbi is the mother of Emily and was one of the co-founders of Greenpeace. Currently, she is editing her first book on the life of Emily's father, the late Robert Hunter, by compiling and co-writing an anthology. She is delighted to host you at our wedding on behalf of the Hunter clan!

Suzanne & Stephen Dyment

Mother & Father of the Groom

Nurse & Lawyer Suzanne and Stephen are Ryan’s parents and they are delighted that their last child to get married is finally getting hitched! They have spent their lives in service helping the wider community around them. This was instilled in Ryan from an early age wanting to drive social change himself.

Will Hunter

Bridesman

Speechwriter, Digital content writer/editor Will is Emily's older brother and wears his "born-in-the-1970s" badge with pride and will challenge you to a disco dancing battle at the drop of a hat. If prompted, will happily talk your ear off about climate change, comic books, Toronto FC, the Raptors and music. Will cherishes his sister Emily the Adventurer (*Ahem) Instigator, who once filled him with enough tequila to ride a jet-ski, go paragliding, and trip around in a personal submarine and a catamaran all within 12 hours.

Josh Dyment

Groomsman

Engineer Josh is Ryan’s older brother. Josh and Ryan always enjoyed the finer things in life together, from epic pillow fights in darkened basements to scary double black diamond ski runs in the forest, or gourmet Montreal cuisine (Schwartz’s and Just Noodles general tao chicken). Josh always has Ryan’s back and is looking forward to many fun years together introducing Phoenix and his 3 kids to all the silly and fun pastimes they shared growing up as kids.

Victoria Buchy

Bridesmaid

Film Producer & Script Supervisor Victoria is a decade-old friend to both Ryan and Emily, having joined the Zeitgeist movement with Ryan and later becoming a board member of the Toronto Tool Library. Emily and Victoria not only share political passions, but have also strengthened their bond in their motherhood journeys together.

David Shafman

Groomsman

Teacher, Toronto District School Board David and Ryan have been friends for more than 25 years, when they met at St. Andrew's Junior High School. Together, they’ve traveled across Europe, seen many concerts and share an interest in documentary films. As one of Ryan’s oldest friends, David is honored to participate in Ryan and Emily’s wedding celebration. David is a teacher and lives in Toronto with his wife Ava and two sons, Ethan and Noah.

Justin Arjune

Bridesman

Lighting Technician, Umbrella Academy Justin and Emily have been best buds for nearly 11 years. They first met each other on the set of the TV series 'Green Heroes' for TVO. Justin later became a roommate at the notorious "Browning House" with Emily and Ryan. Since then, they've worked side-by-side on a number of film projects, including Emily's short film 'Activism 2.0'. Their friendship has been witness to many shenanigans including (but not limited to): covert media-stunt operations, a number of protests, frighteningly joyous Algonquin portage trips, and an interrogation incident while traveling outside of Canada. During the time of COVID-19, Ryan and Emily have become especially close buds with Jus and his partner, Bonnie!

Kim Cooper

Groomswoman

Child and Adolescent Therapist Kim is Ryan's younger sister. When Kim is not working at the hospital counseling kids, she likes to spend time with her own kids (Naomi, age 6 and Lucy, age 2) and her husband Noah. They like to go hiking, take trips, and hang out with friends and family. When Kim has time to herself she likes lying down in a quiet room and watching re-runs of the Golden Girls to wind down from the craziness that has been the past 1.5 years. But now that COVID is winding down and her kids are a bit older, she has been doing more of the things she enjoys such as reading, working out, biking, going to book club and just generally living life! She loves hanging out with Ryan, Emily and Phoenix and can't wait to party it up at their wedding!

Phoenix Hunter

Ring Bearer

DAY JOB: Being cute Phoenix is the son of Emily & Ryan. While Phoenix is not a traditional 'host' of the wedding event, in many ways he's what sparked the wedding to happen as Emily & Ryan fell more in love after having their son. So he too welcomes you to this special wedding event!

Brian Altay

Groomsman

Teacher, Toronto District School Board Brian and Ryan have known each other since Eighth Grade. They met after Ryan welcomed Brian to his new school by throwing a sugar cube at his face. Over 25 years later, they are now both getting married within a month of each other. Brian has been teaching for 16 years, and he’s never once witnessed another kid getting hit in the face by a sugar cube.
