Reagan met Hunter the week before their first year of law school started. He messaged their class groupchat that "all the University of Chicago law students" were meeting at a local dive bar called the Cove Lounge. This was all part of Hunter's master plan to make the Cove (historic haunt of Chicago locals, and coincidentally Hunter's favorite bar) the official hangout of their class. After moving into her apartment, Reagan ventured to the Cove to meet her new classmates. There she found Hunter and a small group of his compadres. It may not have been the huge crowd of law students she was expecting, but Reagan was charmed nonetheless. Reagan bought a pitcher of Goose Island beer for the table, and the rest was history.
After getting to know each other during the first month of law school, Hunter asked Reagan out. Reagan initially said no. After reflection, she lent him one of her favorite books, and inside the front cover she placed a Post-It note: "I changed my mind -- let's go out." For their first date, Hunter took Reagan to a spectacular dinner downtown followed by a surprise: a performance of Hamilton at The Chicago Theater. Hunter still teases Reagan about turning him down at first, but he maintains that it makes for a cute story. They feel blessed to have found each other.
Hunter asked Reagan to marry him on April 14, 2022, around 7:00am in front of the red doors of their Chicago church. You can tell that Reagan was genuinely surprised because she wasn't quite dressed for such a momentous occasion. (In their photos, her white New Balance sneakers can be seen gleaming in the sun.) Hunter chose Easter Thursday to ask the big question, which made celebrating the Easter Vigil together as a newly-engaged couple especially moving.
