Hugo and Kenzie’s love story began on the dance floor. They were both at Plaza Mariachi that evening, and just as Hugo was about to leave, he thought, “Just one more song.” As if on cue, he and Kenzie crossed paths on the edge of the dance floor. Hugo asked Kenzie for a dance, and they ended up dancing together for the rest of the evening. Just three days later, they had their first date at a coffee shop, which turned into a taco stop and ended with ice cream. Hugo asked Kenzie to be his girlfriend while shopping for plants a month later, and they spent the following 2 years working on creative projects together, training for a marathon, playing pickleball, going to bakeries, and attending many rodeos.
Hugo had been planning the proposal for months. On a Thursday afternoon, Kenzie received a call saying Hugo’s car had broken down. When she arrived at Percy Priest Lake, she was dressed in a bathing suit with a proposal being the furthest thing on her mind but Hugo had something much more special planned. On a serene dock overlooking the lake, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Afterward, they celebrated by sailing on the lake, marking the start of their next adventure together.
