Madison is such a cute town! Stroll through the antique shops downtown, or take a drive through the historic district to see the beautiful old mansions. Looking for a bite to eat? We love the Madison Chophouse Grill!
While we’re getting married inside the gates of the Rock Eagle 4-H Center conference center, there’s even more to explore on the grounds. The biggest wonder is the Rock Eagle Effigy. Who built it? Why was it built? Historians can’t say for sure, but it is an amazing sight to behold. Built from quartz stones, the eagle’s wings span 120 feet, and it is 102 feet from head to toe. Climb to the top of the viewing tower to take it all in! Closes at sunset
Imagine if a farmers market was a permanent storefront… that’s Farmview! They have a grocery store, cafe, ice cream counter, and on Saturday mornings there’s an actual farmers market, too! Laura loves to get a meat + 3 plate from the Farmview Cafe for lunch when she’s in the area. Closed on Sundays :(
The iconic peches stand is a huge piece of Eatonton lore. You might know it from the movie My Cousin Vinny, or from giggling at the misspelling as you drive down Hwy 441. I can’t promise that they’ll be open—it’s unfortunately not peach season yet—but it’s a fun landmark to see in real life.
Another ancient bird effigy in Putnam County? Yep! This one is not as well maintained or well known as Rock Eagle, but it is still an amazing piece of history. In the past decade or so, Rock Hawk has been restored and a viewing tower has been built.
