Judy & Doug

All About Lancaster

One early Spring weekend, when Doug took Judy home to "meet the parents", they were enjoying a cup of coffee overlooking the fields and farms visible from his Mom's back deck. She sighed dreamily. "You're gonna make me move back here, aren't you?" Doug asked. "Probably," she replied without missing a beat.
Lancaster Central Market

Lancaster Central Market

23 North Market Street, Lancaster, PA 17603
, (717) 735-6890

America's oldest farmers market, filled with everything from fresh produce to local coffee beans, cheeses, and meats. You'll see some Amish folks selling their goods as well as butchers peddling freshly made sausages. Doug and Judy used to hit the market every Saturday when they lived in the city; it's Judy's favorite place in Lancaster. (Open Saturday morning and afternoon)

The Horse Inn

The Horse Inn

540 East Fulton Street, Lancaster, PA 17602
, (717) 392-5528

The Horse Inn is Doug and Judy's favorite restaurant in Lancaster City. It's a historical relic of the city; as a matter of fact, it gets its speakeasy feel because it was ACTUALLY a speakeasy during prohibition era (disguised as a stable). Today, you can sit at tables inside actual horse stables, enjoy live jazz, award winning food and cocktails. We recommend waiting at the door at a prompt 5pm; there is usually a line out the door and they do not accept reservations.

The Amish Village

The Amish Village

199 Hartman Bridge Road, Ronks, PA 17572
, (717) 687-8511

If you're on Judy's side of the family, you know how much Gram and Pop used to love Lancaster. They actually took Judy and Julia here when they were around 9 years old; they stayed at a nearby hotel modeled after a steamboat and drank root beer made by an Amish family. Then they took them to this farm to learn about how the Amish lived. Little did Judy know, she'd end up moving here and falling in love with it more than a decade later.

Scenic Farmland Drive

Scenic Farmland Drive

601 Temperance Hill Rd, Lititz, Pennsylvania 17543

Using the link below, drive through the rolling farmlands of our beautiful county and see what drew Judy towards living here in the first place. If you have a good sense of direction, you can do this all on the way home from the hotel.
