After a few weeks of messaging, Nick quickly noticed that Izzy wasn't the best with texting or replying back. So, he set up a date where they met for Pizza and Beer at Noble Pie with a trusty third wheel named Roper (Nick's dog). What they thought would be a one-hour date quickly turned into four. They reluctantly ended their first date, which was soon to be followed by many more.

Flash forward: Nick purchased a ring and was planning a proposal realizing their summer weekend activities were quickly filling up the calendar. Despite this, he was able to make a plan for a proposal without Izzy knowing. Nick recruited the help of Izzy's longtime friends, Aubrey and Matt, who had recently brought a baby girl, Sophie, into the world to help capture the proposal. The plan entailed a hike with Aubrey and Matt with the aim of taking Sophie to Lake Tahoe for her first time. Izzy thought nothing of it, other than slight concern that Nick wanted to hike the day after he completed running the Reno Tahoe Odyssey (a 24-hour, 178-mile relay race). However, if you know Nick, it's not out of character to spend his entire weekend outside regardless of the activities or fatigue. So, they went off to hike Skunk Harbor in Lake Tahoe, with Sophie, Aubrey and Matt following closely behind. At the end of the hike, down by the water, Nick guided Izzy onto a rocky cliff-face to point out an old rope swing. Izzy observed it and the Tahoe waves intently, not realizing until turning around to see Nick down on one knee. Words were exchanged and an answer of "yes" given. Aubrey captured the special moment with over 200 photos, and now they continue to enjoy life in anticipation of saying "I do."
