Laura and Jim met through Air Force ROTC at the University of Delaware. Their first memory of each other was finding out they share a birthday while completing a group leadership exercise on the Harrington Turf.

Jim proposed to Laura while on vacation with his family in Cancún, Mexico. Jim made several attempts to lure Laura down to the beach ‘in hopes of spotting turtles’. When Laura finally took Jim up on his offer, they went down to the beach and he popped the question.
