We went to high school together for four years, but didn't really know each other until we finally ended up in the same class in 12th grade: Forensic Science. We were lab partners at one point, but we were both pretty awkward. We did, however, exchange phone numbers and texted here and there but never "dated." Eventually, I (Paulina) moved to Columbia for college and Nick joined the Navy. Unfortunately, during this time we both had our fair share of heartbreak. Eventually, both of us ended up right back in Charleston, SC where we reconnected. We will be forever thankful for things working out the way they did. Our story is the reason we chose "Stuck on You" by Lionel Richie as our First Song. We've been stuck on each other for a while.
It was a no-brainer that we wanted to spend our lives together. We truly make a great team. We were both pretty open with each other about getting engaged, spending countless evenings sitting on the couch, scrolling through diamond rings together- Nick wanted to make sure to get the perfect one. One Friday night in January, (the 10th to be exact), we went to a holiday work party. We were all dressed up and having a great night. The party was ending, but we wanted to keep going! It was Friday night and we were dressed to the nines! So, we left the party, discussing where we should hit up next. I wanted to stop by home to change out of my high heels first, THEN we could go back out (bar hopping, whatever) and Nick excitedly agreed. (Little did I know, this was a perfect opportunity for Nick to grab MY RING (!!!) so he would have it on him if the perfect moment were to arise when we went back out). On the way home, I start getting tired (I'm ALWAYS tired) but I ALWAYS rally! I go to the room to change while Nick (secretly grabs the ring so he will have it on hand when we go back downtown) lets our dog, Nova, outside. I realize I'm just too tired and I'd rather stay home than go back out. Nick says "are ya sure??..." (at this point, he realizes his plans are FOILED). Thinking quickly, he tells me to come outside. He wants to show me something (maybe the dog is doing something weird?). So, as I come around the corner I see Nick. On his knee. Waiting. For me. I was like "Wait... Here?! What are you doing!" and he said he couldn't wait any longer and he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. "Will you marry me?" yes. yes. yes. yes. It wasn't what either of us imagined, but it was perfect. This house means a lot to us (our first house as homeowners) and now, it means even more. Love begins at home.
