While planning a trip to Mexico City, Monica stumbled upon Adam's Hinge profile which included a picture of him in front of Pujol, the restaurant highest on her Mexico City to-do list. After connecting, Adam offered to share the rest of his itinerary over a mezcal flight at Ghost Donkey, which just happened to be Monica's favorite bar, in mid-January 2020. Less than two months later, the world was put on lockdown as Covid-19 reached pandemic status. While several fled NYC for the suburbs and beyond, Monica and Adam decided to stay and see where the relationship would take them. In lieu of typical dates at restaurants and bars, they got creative with their apartment dates featuring home cooked gourmet meals, zoom game nights with friends, and Love Island binge watching sessions. While walking back and forth to each other's apartments in Nomad and Union Square, the two would always make sure to include Gramercy Park as it was their favorite part of their paths. When it came time to plan out the proposal, Adam knew Gramercy Park was the place. He spent weeks knocking on the door of every business around the park, hoping someone would lend him the key to no avail. His last hope was the Brotherhood Synagogue where he found a Rabbi who immediately agreed -- what could be more on brand than to help two Jews engaged? As the city started to reopen and the weather heated up in May 2021, Adam had invited Monica on an Italian-themed food tour throughout the city. Early in the "tour" Adam took a detour to walk by Gramercy Park and surprised Monica with the coveted key. Inside their favorite park and with their families excitedly peering through the gates, Adam got down on one knee.
