Both of us were invited to a worship night at our friend Justin's house with a bunch of young adults. I obviously came fashionably late and I noticed Honour as someone I had not met before. As we sang, Honour says he noticed my singing during the song 'Touch of Heaven' and both of us kind of took over the lead during it. That has now been our song since ;) Throughout that summer we went to many events that each other was at and became friends quite quickly. Honour said he would Facetime me to remind me of something a couple days later but I said "You can't Facetime me if you don't have my number", and he then proceeded to ask for my number which I insisted that he take a photo of himself when putting his number in my phone and I did the same. Except I had many practice ones that I thought I deleted only to find out months later that all of them were still saved in his phone... We began getting to know each other more and talking about dreams and visions for our futures which seemed to align, but we were not ready to declare that.
I went off to school at the end of the summer and after a bit of a pause in our friendship, we picked up texting a couple months later and planned to see each other over Christmas. When planning what we would do, my response was "That sounds like a date", to which he responded, "I'd go on a date with you"... I froze but said that we should talk about that. We saw each other and hung out at different events over the next 4 months as I visited back home and eventually told each other we liked each other but never went on our first official date. I was still debating if I wanted to date him... Honour calls this the negotiation phase (which I hate). When I got back in the summer, we went on our first date and continued negotiating until we officially started dating on July 30th, 2022.
For almost 3 years of dating, Honour and I have done many exciting and fun things together, but we have also done the mundane things together as we have become best friends and the person we each want to spend the most time with. We eat most dinners together, with one of us cooking (usually Honour lol), and then spend multiple hours at the table after dinner having conversations, enjoying each others company (even when we have assignments or work to get to). Honour quickly became the first person I want to tell news to, the one I want to be around even when we are both doing our own thing, and the one I want to experience new things with (that is what I have been thinking all year since I have been gone, that I wish Honour was here experiencing it with me!). We have had many fun times over our dating years including dates to botanical gardens, corn mazes, skating, pottery painting, movies, but our favourites have always been each others birthdays where we get to spoil one another. Honour took me to Cirque de Soleil last birthday and we usually choose from one of our favourite restaurants which include Taste of Shangrila (Indian food), Korean BBQ, or trying something new! Our classic Valentine's date was Five Guys Burgers and Fries (because my birthday is only 2 weeks later LOL). Some great adventures include going on trips to Waterton (Honour's annual place to visit), to BC for a friends wedding, and meeting his parents in Kenya in 2024!! There's been so many great times and I can't wait for more!
After dating for 2.5 years, we both knew we wanted to marry each other and discussed the proposal happening in summer of 2025; I expected June or July. I went off to school for March and April, and during those months, Honour was getting up to mischief. When I moved back home, we decided to have two dates in May to make up for the time I was gone, the first one he would plan at West Ed, and the second I would plan a picnic. After church, we stopped at my parents to get what we needed on this day of our picnic and my mom was acting really weird making sure we had "everything we needed" and seemed really concerned about our picnic. Because I was planning this date, I made Honour banana chocolate chip muffins which are his favourite, bought the A&W that we would eat (our classic fast food), and we planned to play guitar and do some singing while there. He said he wanted to take videos of himself playing to show his mom, which in the moment I thought was believable so he started recording us. He made a video showing pictures of our relationship that he told me to watch while he played in the background. At the end of the video was the messages from the friend that invited him to the night where we met, on the same day 4 years earlier (which I did not know). I turned off the recording to tell him how sweet the video was but he told me to keep it going. He got on one knee and only at this moment did I realize what was happening (I even thought he was joking for a second). I literally said, "Don't" (because I thought it was a joke), and he said, "It's happening!" He said his words and I said yes and proceeded to turn off the recording and go into shock mode. But the important part is I said Yes! And we couldn't be more excited!
