About 45 minutes north of Mount Vernon, Bellingham is a lively waterfront college town with great restaurants, a historic Fairhaven district, and easy access to outdoor adventures like Whatcom Falls Park and scenic Chuckanut Drive. This year the city reopened Little Squalicum Pier, the longest public pier in Washington!
Deception Pass State Park
About 30 minutes from Mount Vernon, Deception Pass State Park is one of Washington’s most visited parks, known for its dramatic bridge, rugged cliffs, and scenic beaches. It’s perfect for hiking, picnicking, or simply taking in the views.
La Conner
Just 15 minutes away, La Conner is a charming waterfront town filled with art galleries, boutiques, and cozy restaurants. It’s a great spot to stroll, shop, and enjoy views of the Swinomish Channel.
North Cascades National Park
North Cascades National Park is about 1–1.5 hours east of Mount Vernon and offers dramatic peaks, turquoise glacier-fed lakes, and scenic alpine trails. It’s a perfect spot for a day trip to enjoy breathtaking views and outdoor adventures—just be sure to pack layers, as weather can change quickly.
San Juan Islands
Reachable by ferry from Anacortes, the San Juan Islands are a stunning getaway of over 170 islands, known for breathtaking scenery, whale watching, and charming seaside towns. Popular stops include: San Juan Island – Home to Friday Harbor, with shops, restaurants, and the Whale Museum. Orcas Island – Known for hiking at Moran State Park and the views from Mount Constitution. Lopez Island – A quieter island with scenic cycling routes and relaxed beaches.
