Aubrie first met Mike when he moved to Stephens City, VA in eighth grade. Aubrie knew there was something special about the new kid. Mike had no idea she existed. During sophomore chemistry class, Mike texted Aubrie for homework help. She knew he already had all the answers. He officially asked her to be his girlfriend June 21, 2008.

Mike proposed to Aubrie while on a walk with Hewie between Virginia and Roosevelt Island in DC. Aubrie thought it was strange he brought a bag with him to go to a park 10 minutes from their house. Unbeknownst to her, it was needed to hold the ring box. She had no idea of his intention until he stopped her and Hewie mid-bridge and got real awkward. He successfully delivered his speech and of course she said, "Yes".
