The couple met in Omaha where they were both pursuing their Doctorate degrees. Through the help of mutual friends and the good ole Internet, the two were able to cross paths! Once they met, they had many commonalities and instantly hit it off. It made perfect sense why God created them for each other. Two weeks later, Nick asked Katie to be his girlfriend and ended up getting gum stuck in her hair right when he asked, the rest was history!

Nick planned a special night for the two at Meatball in Blackstone, where the couple had their first date. Once the meal was done and the two began walking back to his car, Katie heard a barking that sounded similar to their Goldendoodle Joey. Katie said, "That is strange that sounds like Joey". It was already dark out and as many of you know, Katie is practically blind in the dark and was unable to make out who the dog was! Once the dog was in sight, Katie noticed a sign around the dog's neck and screamed: "Oh my goodness it is lost Goldendoodle, what are the odds we have to take it!" It was not until Nick got down on one knee that Katie realized that the "lost dog" was in fact Joey and that the sign around Joey's neck said "Mommy, Will You Marry Daddy?" Katie said "Yes!" and it was one of the most memorable nights of their lives...for now ;)
