2002-2006 Our story starts long ago in a far far away land of Washtucna. Where Sonny's Tavern was the hot spot for food and snacks and going to the pool was the only thing to do all day long. As soon as the sun came down, it was off to Grandma’s backroom to create life long memories and lessons. We don’t know the exact time or day we met but clearly we stayed in each others mind for years to come. 2003 was the year we became friends, a 15 and 18 year old were “years” apart when growing. We were on different paths, high school and college, but we still seemed to cross paths enough to stay in each others hearts.
2006-2018 We would keep in touch, joking I’d come visit him someday down in Colorado or he’d let me know when he was back in Washington but the timing never seems quite right.
July 14th 2018 Changed both our lives, truly embracing that everything happens for a reason. It only took 2 months to get me to Denver. I came down with “just friends” status and left knowing this wasn’t the last we’d see of each other. 6 months of hour long facetime chats, 20 flights, and a 1200 mile drive later... we were finally together to stay.
August 23rd 2019 We were both a bit hung over. We were driving from Seattle to Cannon Beach to spend the weekend with family, little did I know, Blaine had plans of his own. HIS version: Meggs and her niece went to the store to grab a few things. Madi and I had about 20 min to change and get everything ready. We got all of the notes set up for Meggs to find when she got back with the last note directing her out to the beach. I’d planned to say a lot. Stuff about how she’d been there for me when my dad died, how I loved traveling the world with her, how much love she’d brought to my life. I’d memorized exactly what I wanted to say. When she arrived, looking beautiful, I only managed to say about a quarter of it. Suffice to say, she was very surprised. We were both surprised because when I went down on a knee, my jeans ripped…creating a vent in my pants. Luckily she didn’t notice and then made me the happiest guy and in the world and said “yes!” Not sure exactly why but I won’t argue! HER version: He was more hung over than I was, I also didn’t care for his driving so I decided to drive to the Coast. The drive was beautiful and we got there about noon. I had forgotten a few essentials from the store so I left Madi and Blaine to unpack. I’m gone maybe 10 minutes, I come back to Madi dressed up, which was odd because we were all in comfy clothes from the drive. She told me I needed to go look at “the Crow’s Nest”. I saw the letters, each stairway had a note with a memory and a photo. I gathered and read each one, I noticed Madi was recording so I knew something was up. When I got up there, I found a bottle of champagne and a final note that said come look at the “rocks” with me. I looked towards the beach, I could see Blaine standing there swaying. Surely wondering if I’d show or run! HaHa. I did run, straight to the beach! Where he’d forget almost every word he’d rehearsed except “will you marry me”. If you ask him, I had tears, I’m unsure. I of course said YES.
