One of the first graded public schools in the Southeast, it operated as a school from 1895-1957 (Morgan's paternal grandparents both attended school here). Following an extensive renovation, the building reopened in 1976 as the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, housing a history exhibit highlighting the Piedmont region of Georgia in the 19th century, a restored c. 1895 classroom, and a gallery that showcases original furnishings from the Arts and Crafts Period. Visitors are welcome Tuesdays-Saturday 10AM-5PM. The Center is closed on Sunday, Monday & Holidays.
This Greek Revival home was built in 1811 was constructed 200 feet south from its current location. The home was moved in 1909 when the owner at the time sold a portion of the home's acreage. The entire home was “jacked up” on logs and pulled by horses and mules to its current site, becoming an Inn for a while. Since 1977, the home has been operated by the Morgan County Historical Society, Inc. Heritage Hall is open for tours Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Sunday, 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
Built by Reuben Rogers from 1809-1810, the house is a fine example of the Piedmont Plain style of architecture seen throughout the rural United States. Tours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, and Sunday, 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
